A prominent socio-political support group with a broad grassroots reach, Seyi Makinde Disciples (SMD), has called on residents of Oyo State and Nigerians at large to dedicate the sacred seasons of Lent 2026 and Ramadan 1447AH to fervent prayers for Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State, and the nation.

In a goodwill message released on Wednesday and jointly signed by the group’s Convener, Prince Laja Adeoye, and its Spokesman, Olusegun C. A. Taiwo (OCAT), the SMD urged Christians and Muslims to use the spiritual significance of the fasting periods to seek divine intervention for the state and the country.

The group described Lent and Ramadan as seasons of deep reflection, sacrifice, and renewed faith, noting that both observances emphasize compassion, discipline, and prayers for peace and progress.

According to the statement, “This is a time for sober reflection and collective supplication. We encourage the people of Oyo State and Nigerians to pray for Governor Seyi Makinde, for wisdom and strength to continue delivering good governance, and for sustained peace and development in our dear state and nation.”

The SMD acknowledged the economic hardship currently being experienced across the country, attributing the situation to policies of the present federal government. However, the group expressed optimism that through faith and unity, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.

“We believe that the hardship and suffering being experienced are products of the present federal government’s policies, but we trust God for ease and a more plentiful economy soon,” the statement added.

The group further encouraged residents to remain patient, steadfast, and supportive of ongoing efforts aimed at stabilizing the economy and improving living conditions.

SMD concluded by calling for unity beyond religious and political lines, stressing that the prayers and sacrifices offered during Lent and Ramadan should translate into love for one another and collective commitment to the growth of Oyo State and Nigeria.
