The Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alh Abdulrahman Olanrewaju Adepoju has commiserated with traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Akinlapa Market, pledging the support of the Local Government to cushion the impact of their losses.
The Chairman made this known during a condolence visit to the scene of the incident. He described the news of the fire outbreak as shocking and unfortunate, noting that while such incidents are unexpected, faith in God remains paramount in difficult times.
He expressed heartfelt sympathy to the affected traders and urged them to accept the incident with courage and faith.
The Council Boss assured that the Local Government, in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, would provide necessary support to the victims. He emphasized that although no amount of assistance can adequately compensate for the magnitude of the losses incurred, the support to be provided would serve as a token of empathy and solidarity with the affected traders.
However, Alh Adepoju has advised all traders within Akinlapa Market and its environs to exercise caution in the use of electricity. He stressed the importance of switching off all electrical appliances and gadgets in their shops after the close of business each day to prevent future occurrences.
In her remarks, the Administrative Secretary of Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mrs. Ojuolape Busari, urged traders to promptly report any emerging crisis within the market to appropriate authorities before it escalates. She noted that government intervention is only possible when incidents are duly reported. She further disclosed that necessary logistics would be deployed to organize a sensitization campaign on fire prevention within the market.
Mrs. Busari further assured the victims that the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, remains committed to providing relief to cushion the effects of the unfortunate incident.
On the Chairman’s entourage during the visit included the Chief of Staff, Honourable Councillors, the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), the Director of Education and Social services, the Deputy Director of Education, as well as the State Coordinator of SEMA and the Agency’s Secretary.
