As Oyo State marks its Golden Jubilee, the anniversary has been described as a defining moment that aligns with the trailblazing governance strides of Governor Seyi Makinde, according to an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA), Engr. Oyebamiji Olaide Rasaq.
Engr. Rasaq, a 2027 aspirant for Ibadan SouthWest State Constituency I, said the 50th anniversary of Oyo State presents a historic opportunity to reflect on the state’s journey, consolidate on reforms, and reposition governance for sustainable development. The House of Assembly hopeful hails from Ile Omo Compound and is contesting to represent Ibadan SouthWest Constituency I.
Speaking in Ibadan to commemorate Oyo @ 50, Engr. Rasaq noted that the Golden Jubilee coincides with what he described as a “trailblazer milestone” under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, whose policies and projects, he said, have strengthened institutions, improved infrastructure, and expanded opportunities for citizens.
“Oyo @ 50 is not just a celebration of years, but a celebration of progress, resilience, and renewed hope,” Engr. Rasaq said. “This Golden Jubilee intersects with a period of purposeful leadership under Governor Seyi Makinde, where governance has been people-centred and development-driven.”
He commended the state government’s investments in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, agribusiness, and civil service reforms, adding that such milestones set a solid foundation for the next phase of legislative support and community-focused representation.
Engr. Rasaq further stated that his aspiration to the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2027 is anchored on deep grassroots engagement, effective lawmaking, and robust oversight that will complement the executive arm in delivering dividends of democracy to Ibadan SouthWest Constituency I.
“As we celebrate 50 years of Oyo State, the task ahead is to ensure that our legislative institutions are strengthened with competent, credible, and community-rooted representatives,” he said. “My aspiration is driven by service, integrity, and a clear vision to advance the welfare of our people.”
He urged residents of Ibadan SouthWest Constituency I, particularly youths and professionals, to remain actively involved in the democratic process, noting that the Golden Jubilee should inspire collective responsibility toward building a more prosperous and inclusive Oyo State.
Oyo State was created in 1976, and its 50th anniversary has been marked by reflections on governance, development milestones, and renewed calls for unity and progress across the state.
