Adebayo Gbenga Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, has threatened to institute legal action against a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over alleged defamatory statements linking him to the killing of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.
The threat is contained in a formal legal letter issued by Kunle Ayemoyin & Co., Legal Practitioners, acting on behalf of Fryo. The letter, dated December 31, 2025, accused Fayose of making “false, malicious and defamatory statements” during a live television programme titled Politics Tonight aired on TVC Television on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
According to the letter, Fayose allegedly insinuated that Fryo, who was at the time a gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, was involved in the assassination of Chief Bola Ige. The legal team described the statement as reckless, unfounded, and capable of seriously damaging Fryo’s reputation both locally and internationally.
The lawyers stressed that their client has never been arrested, investigated, charged, or convicted in connection with the murder of Bola Ige, noting that Fayose’s comments were made without any factual or legal basis. They further argued that the broadcast subjected Fryo to public ridicule, hatred, and suspicion, especially given the sensitive nature of the Bola Ige assassination.
In the letter, Fryo’s legal representatives demanded:
A full and unreserved retraction of the alleged defamatory statement;
A public apology to be aired on national television and published in widely circulated media outlets; and
The immediate cessation of any further defamatory remarks against their client.
The lawyers gave Fayose a seven-day ultimatum to comply with these demands, warning that failure to do so would leave their client with no option but to seek legal redress in court, including claims for substantial damages.
“As solicitors to our client, we have been instructed to commence legal proceedings should these conditions not be met within the stipulated time,” the letter stated.
As of the time of filing this report, Ayodele Fayose has not publicly responded to the legal threat. The development has, however, sparked renewed public debate around the unresolved assassination of Chief Bola Ige and the responsibilities of public figures in making allegations on national platforms.
Observers say the looming lawsuit could further heighten political tensions, especially as it involves prominent political actors and a matter of deep national sensitivity.
