The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo State Chapter, has called on young people across the state to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, while also urging heightened vigilance in light of recent security concerns.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after the State General Meeting of Leaders of Youth Organizations, held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the State Youth House, Yemetu, Ibadan. The meeting brought together leaders of affiliate youth organizations under the NYCN umbrella to deliberate on key issues affecting the state.
According to the communiqué, the youth leaders emphasized the importance of the ongoing voter registration and encouraged eligible youths to register before the close of the first phase. They highlighted that youths make up approximately 70 percent of the state’s population—an advantage that should be utilized to strengthen democratic participation.
On security, the council commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the various security structures and initiatives introduced by his administration. However, the youth leaders called for the establishment of a unified resident identification system and stronger support for local security outfits, including Amotekun, vigilante groups, and the Agbekoya society.
The meeting also referenced recent security incidents in Oyo town, including the abduction of Mr. Afees Agbede, the newly appointed manager of Musalat Filling Station along the New Ife Road Expressway (Baba n’Dagbe area). Agbede was kidnapped around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2025, by unidentified gunmen. The council urged the Nigeria Police Force to intensify investigations, ensure the safe rescue of the victims, and apprehend the perpetrators.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the State Chairman, Comrade Eniola Alex, appealed to youths to remain vigilant and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Oyo State. He encouraged them to “say something when they see something,” avoid unnecessary night movements, and prioritize personal and community safety.
The NYCN Oyo State Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to youth advocacy, unity, and the continued progress of the state.
