In a major step towards lasting peace and reconciliation within the Igbo community in Oyo State, the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Oyo State on Community Relations (Igbo Community), Hon. Tallest Innocent, led members of the Igbo Peace Committee on a visit yesterday to some of the community’s revered royal fathers in Ibadan.
The visit forms part of the peace and reconciliation process which has been ongoing since 8th August 2024, aimed at ending decades-long rifts, litigations, and rivalries between notable Igbo leaders, including Late Dr. Alex Anozie, High Chief Alloy Obi, and High Chief James Oramadike.
During the meeting, the two surviving royal fathers reaffirmed their earlier commitment, made during the town hall meeting of 18th November 2024 at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State Secretariat, that they would not return to conflict and would support the newly elected executives of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide, Oyo State Chapter, as well as all Igbo activities in Oyo State.
They reminded us that they are brothers from the same community in the East and asked that we allow them to resolve their differences amicably,” Hon. Tallest Innocent stated. “Their assurances have given fresh hope for unity and progress within our community.
The delegation also visited Emeritus Engr. Ndubuisi Okorie, who expressed joy at the visit and pledged his full support for Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo activities in Oyo State.
Hon. Innocent expressed gratitude to God Almighty for journey mercies and commended the Igbo Peace Committee for their sacrifices and tireless efforts towards the restoration of peace and brotherhood.
This visit marks another milestone in the quest for a united and progressive Igbo community in Oyo State.
