Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro, renowned as Bibire, has heavily praised Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as “six uninterrupted years of purposeful governance, transformational leadership, people-centred development in Oyo State, and redefinition of leadership excellence in modern Nigeria.”

It recalls that on May 29, 2019, exactly six years ago, Governor Seyi Makinde was officially sworn in as the Executive Governor of Oyo State after winning the election by a wide margin.

The chieftain of the PDP in Oyo State, in a statement made available to Polity Reporters today, May 29, 2025, noted that Governor Seyi Makinde is rewriting the narrative of governance in Oyo State through his unequalled pro-masses policies, unassailable projects, life-changing programs, and impactful interventions, which continue to etch a permanent imprint on the hearts of the people.

He maintained that Oyo State, under the stewardship of Governor Makinde, has become a standard example of progressive governance, with achievements that have placed the state on the national and international map for positive reasons.

Bibire said “the governor’s Roadmap for Accelerated Development in his first term did not only revive moribund sectors but also rekindled the faith of the people in the possibilities of good governance.”

He established that “Governor Makinde has made governance look noble again through the premium priority he placed on the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, and the visible transformation in health, security, infrastructure, education, agribusiness, and what have you.”

The retired US Navy veteran asserted that “only a leader who feels the pulse of the people and genuinely cares about the next generation, not just the next election, would commit to building hundreds of kilometres of economically strategic roads across the state.”

Bibire, on security, commended the governor for empowering security agencies in Oyo State and equally equipping them with the necessary tools needed to tackle security threats, remarking that “Makinde understands that economic prosperity is impossible without peace and safety.”

He commended the state government’s Light-Up Oyo project, the consistent payment of salaries and pensions, and the timely intervention in cushioning the effects of economic hardship through the SAfER programme.

Bibire furthered that “the governor has demonstrated great courage and boldness in tackling the power issue by launching independent energy initiatives and signing transformative deals like the Shell Gas Infrastructure agreement that would outlive this administration.”

He added that “Governor Makinde’s approach to education, by recruiting teachers, renovating schools, and sustaining free education at the basic level, has rescued thousands of children from the pit of hopelessness.”

He further said “the revamp of health centres in all the wards, alongside free medical missions and expansion of the health insurance scheme, speaks to a government that prioritizes people over politics.”

Bibire described Governor Makinde’s approach to economic expansion as “deliberate, inclusive and futuristic,” saying “the growth of Oyo State’s economy from 2.75 trillion naira in 2019 to over 4 trillion naira in less than five years is not by chance but by prudent execution.”

He said “what the people of Oyo have enjoyed in the last six years is not propaganda or audio projects, but tangible development backed by the conscious and deliberate policy planning.

Bibire stated that “the transition from the first-term Roadmap for Accelerated Development to the second-term Roadmap for Sustainable Development is evidence of a leader not running out of ideas but deepening his philosophy of impact.”

He stressed that Oyo State is today standing tall because it is being governed by a man equipped with the wherewithal of governance and fundamentals of leadership.

“When you look at how Oyo State has maintained salary consistency, empowered youth in agribusiness, and attracted private investment in key sectors, you know the man, with multiple competencies and administratively sagacious, is not just working but thinking ahead,” he noted.

The US IT Specialist who has remained a strong voice in support of the Makinde-led administration, made a clarion call to the good people of Oyo State to continue lending their essential backing and support behind the governor to do even more.

He affirmed very boldly that “Governor Seyi Makinde is a pride to the PDP, a rare gift to Oyo State, an asset to Nigeria, and a living proof that politics can be people-driven and result-oriented.”

Bibire concluded by praying Almighty God to continue blessing the number one citizen of Oyo State with good health, strength, and wisdom to keep leading the state along the path of progress he began six years ago.
