The Harrison Niyi Alonge Care Foundation has congratulated Nigerian children, particularly those in Ekiti State, on the occasion of Children’s Day 2025.
In a congratulatory message signed by Comrade Olawale Ezekiel, the foundation’s Media Aide, Founder and CEO Mr. Harrison Alonge celebrated the innocence, curiosity, and potential of Nigerian children.
Alonge emphasized that children are the heritage and future of society, and it’s a collective responsibility to ensure their rights are protected and development is nurtured. He advocated for the implementation of Child Rights Acts across Nigeria, providing a supportive environment for children to grow, learn, and thrive.
The philanthropist praised President Bola Tinubu for signing into law a bill protecting children’s rights in Nigeria. This development is seen as a significant step towards ensuring Nigerian children receive the protection and support they deserve.
Alonge urged Nigerians to work together to create a brighter future for children, enabling them to reach their full potential and become future leaders. By protecting children’s rights and providing supportive environments, Nigeria can unlock the potential of its young population and build a more prosperous future.
While some states have made progress in implementing the Child Rights Act, others still lag behind. As of 2020, only 25 out of 36 states had passed the Act into law. The National Human Rights Commission has repeatedly emphasized the need for all states to domesticate the Act to ensure comprehensive protection for Nigerian children ¹.
Many Nigerian children face significant challenges, including poverty, abuse, and lack of access to education. According to a 2014 survey, six out of 10 Nigerian children experience at least one form of violence before age 18. Addressing these issues is crucial to creating a supportive environment for children to thrive.
By working together to protect children’s rights and provide supportive environments, Nigeria can build a brighter future for its young population.
