A vibrant new chapter in Nigerian politics opened today as “Seyi Makinde Disciples,” a prominent support group, officially launched its new logo and kickstarted a nationwide campaign to rally support for Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The group’s enthusiastic members declared, “Yes, he will serve you better,” highlighting Makinde’s developmental strides in Oyo State as a testament to his capacity for national leadership.
The unveiling of the sleek, modern logo was met with thunderous applause, signifying a renewed energy and commitment to their cause.
Addressing the gathering, a key leader of the group emphasized, “Our conviction in Governor Makinde’s ability to transform Nigeria is not based on mere sentiment, but on the tangible evidence of his achievements right here in Oyo State. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership, prudent resource management, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.”
The group pointed to several key developmental and infrastructural achievements in Oyo State under Governor Makinde’s leadership as a blueprint for what he could achieve at the national level:
* Infrastructure Revolution: The administration has embarked on an ambitious road construction and rehabilitation drive, connecting major zones and improving connectivity across the state. Notable projects include the 76km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road (renamed Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway), the 65km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road, and the dualization of the 12.5km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe-Elebu-Apata Road. The ongoing 110km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road is set to further decongest inner-city traffic and boost economic activities. Furthermore, significant progress has been made in upgrading the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan to international standards, with improved road networks and the construction of an aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility.
* Education Sector Revitalization: Makinde’s government has made significant investments in education, evidenced by the upgrading of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to a university, the renovation and sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), and the cancellation of school fees in public primary and secondary schools, leading to a significant increase in enrollment.
* Healthcare Accessibility: The administration has renovated and equipped 264 Primary Health Centres across the state, alongside upgrades to General Hospitals, significantly improving access to healthcare services for residents. The establishment of a Solarized PSA Medical Oxygen Plant and Level 2 Newborn Unit at Jericho Specialist Hospital further underscores this commitment.
* Economic Expansion and Job Creation: Focus on agribusiness has led to a remarkable increase in Oyo State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Initiatives like the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) and the resuscitation of moribund state-owned companies through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) have created an environment conducive to economic growth. The establishment of a graduate youth employment scheme and skills acquisition centers has also addressed unemployment.
* Enhanced Security: The establishment of Amotekun, a state-backed security outfit, and an anti-corruption agency has demonstrably improved security and good governance in the state.
While Governor Makinde has recently stated that the 2027 election would be a contest between Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and not necessarily between the PDP and the APC, and has also affirmed his capacity to occupy the highest political office in the land, the “Seyi Makinde Disciples” remain unwavering in their conviction that his leadership is precisely what Nigeria needs.
The group pledged to embark on extensive grassroots mobilization, engaging with various stakeholders across the country to convey their message.
“We believe Governor Makinde’s track record of transparency, accountability, and impactful development in Oyo State makes him the ideal candidate to steer Nigeria towards progress and prosperity,” a spokesperson concluded, as the rally officially commenced.
The coming months are set to witness intensified political activities as the “Seyi Makinde Disciples” amplify their call for their preferred candidate to join the presidential race.
