In a bid to uplift his constituents, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, on Saturday empowered over 100 youths and women with business equipment to boost their skills in soap-making, disinfectant production, and liquid bleach manufacturing.
As part of the initiative, Agboworin, a two-term federal legislator and Chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, also distributed 150 tricycle wheelchairs, crutches, and other mobility aids to persons living with disabilities across the constituency.
Presenting the items on his behalf, the First Lady of Oyo State, Her Excellency, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Funke Makinde, applauded the lawmaker for his consistent efforts to support his constituents. She urged beneficiaries to utilize the equipment effectively to create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.
“Thank you, my brother Agboworin, for continuing to touch lives. The turnout today is impressive compared to 2023. I commend you for this impactful initiative,” she said.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including Barr. Muyiwa Makinde, Commissioner for Special Duties; Alhaja Sanni; Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, PDP State Secretary; Hon. Dare Adeleke, PDP Caretaker Chairman, Ekiti State; and local government chairmen from Ibadan North-East, North, South-West, and North-West, among others.
Also present were Mrs. Steve-Ogundipe Olayinka, NDE Oyo State Director, and Barr. Dare Adekanmbi, Director-General of the Oyo State Agency for People Living with Disabilities, alongside PDP leaders, party faithful, and community members.
The empowerment programme, organized in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and facilitated by Merit-Plus Integrated Services and Global Resources Limited, was held at the Apex Multipurpose Hall, Yidi-Agodi Gate, Ibadan.
Speaking at the event, Agboworin explained that the initiative was aimed at improving the standard of living for his constituents, especially people with disabilities. He encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, urging them to leverage the new skills and tools to achieve economic independence and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The items distributed included gas cylinders, stainless mixers (cosmetic filling machine – AMG Edition), industrial burners, wooden cutting tables, sets of aluminum pots, and other business tools.
