NYCN Forum Of Chairmen Charts Path For Enhanced Youth Development Across Nigeria

COMMUNIQUE OF THE CHAIRMEN’S FORUM MEETING OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) HELD  ON APRIL 18, 2025 AT PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA

The Chairmen’s Forum of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) assembled for a pivotal meeting in Port Harcourt on April 18, 2025. This gathering was notably marked by the participation of representatives from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force, underscoring its significance in uniting key stakeholders.

Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, presiding as President of NYCN, inaugurated the session, extending his warm welcome to the gathered State Chairmen. His address focused on updates concerning the Council’s progress, recent state election outcomes, and the recognition of leaders such as the Chairmen from Osun, Kano, the Caretaker Chairman of Akwa-Ibom State, and the newly elected Chairmen for instance Kaduna and Rivers States.

Under the leadership of Forum, Chairman Comr. Abdul-Quadri Abdul-Salam, appreciation was conveyed to the State Chairmen for their tireless and selfless dedication to advancing youth development nationally. Regional Chairmen shared brief insights into their states’ activities, providing a snapshot of ongoing youth initiatives.

The meeting advanced by formally integrating new State Chairmen into its membership and addressed vacant positions within the Forum. Comr. Shamsu Shamo from Katsina State was Elected as the Secretary, while Comr. Kokoriko Ebikibina of Bayelsa State also Elected as the Public Relations Officer, signifying a strategic strengthening of leadership.

The Chairmen’s forum has officially expressed a Vote of Confidence in the National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo. This endorsement is based on his commendable leadership style and the notable achievements he has realized to date. Furthermore, the forum has pledged its unwavering support to continue standing by his leadership as he guides the council towards future successes.

Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, the youth Chairman Ogun State  the Host State of the 22nd National Sports Festival, informed the Forum about the upcoming “Gateway Games Ogun 2024,” slated for May 16-31, 2025. He emphasized the importance of robust youth participation from across the Federation, projecting involvement from over 15,000 athletes and enthusiasts, and conveyed supportive messages from the Governor of Ogun State and other prominent figures, guaranteeing a warm reception.

Amidst deliberations, the Forum voiced its concern regarding the current inoperability of NYCN’s social media platforms, especially WhatsApp. A decisive resolution was adopted, urging the National Executive Council (NEC) to revitalize these platforms and empower State Chairmen with administrative access, aiming to foster greater inclusion across the Federation’s youth landscape.

The Forum called upon the Minister for Youth Development to ensure the forthcoming National Youth Confab incorporation of the Various State of the NYCN.

Furthermore, the Forum encouraged State Chairmen to return to their respective states and actively combat youth restiveness by implementing skill development programs, embodying the “One Youth, One Skill” initiative, to significantly impact and enhance youth development.
