
Oyo PDP chieftain, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has communicated warm birthday greetings to former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, on her 66th birthday.
In a personally signed statement made available to Polity Reporters, Wednesday, Bibire described Senator Sunmonu as a special gift to Oyo State and the nation, noting that her years of selfless public service as Speaker and later as Senator representing Oyo Central have left indelible footprints.
He categorically affirmed that Rt. Hon. Sunmonu set a high standard as the first female Speaker of the State House of Assembly, presiding with distinction and focusing on life-changing initiatives that empowered students, youths, women and other important segments of the society in ways that gave them enough voices and opportunities to flourish and contribute meaningfully to their immediate communities.

“In your time as Speaker, everyone witnessed how you presided over a truly pro-people chamber, one that focused on passing laws directed at improving the welfare of the masses and protecting the interests of the common man,” Bibire stated.
He added, “It is also on record that you led a House that respected the rule of law, stood on justice, and boldly pursued what was right for the people.”
He maintained that the good people of Oyo State remain grateful for the dividends of democracy they enjoyed during her tenure as first amongst equals of the Oyo Parliament.
He continued that her impact didn’t stop at the state level, as she carried her legislative brilliance to the Senate where she moved motions and sponsored bills focused on social equity, including those for women empowerment, disability rights, care for the vulnerable, amongst many others.
Bibire noted that Senator Sunmonu continues to offer her experience and wisdom as a member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, where she remains a strong pillar in support of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
According to Bibire, “Senator Sunmonu is still making visible impact today as a member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, where she continues to contribute meaningfully to the success of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.”
He also praised her consistent loyalty to the PDP at both state and national levels, noting that she has played and continues to play great role in strengthening the internal structures of the party and always advocating unity and reconciliation for collective progress.
“As an integral member of our party, record has it that you played important roles across many fronts in making our party formidable and united, and we acknowledge and appreciate your invaluable contributions,” he said.
He said that at 66, Senator Sunmonu has every reason to be proud of an unblemished record of public service to Oyo State, Nigeria, and humanity.
He concluded with prayers that God will continue to bless her with long life, sound health, wisdom, and the continued fulfillment of her noble aspirations for Oyo State, Nigeria and humanity in the years ahead.
