The Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in Oyo State, Hon. (Mrs.) Toyin Balogun has penned a heartfelt tribute to Distinguished Senator Monsurat Aduke Sunmonu, hailing her as a “distinguished, stellar amazon” on her birthday.
Senator Sunmonu, the first female Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is lauded for her outstanding public service and impactful political career.
Hon. Balogun’s message highlights Sen. Sunmonu’s role as a “political juggernaut, indispensable formidable ally, mentor, and mother to many.”
Hon. Balogun recounted her first significant interaction with Sen. Sunmonu, recalling an interview where she was deeply impressed by the senator’s dedication and selflessness.
“I asked about her future plans and if running for elective office was on her bucket list,” Hon. Balogun shared.
“She looked me straight in the eyes and replied, ‘What has God not done for me? I have been there, done that. What’s left for me is to devote all my efforts, energies, and prayers towards ensuring that my children and His Excellency GSM succeed beyond their wildest dreams.'”
This response, Hon. Balogun noted, solidified her admiration and earned Sen. Sunmonu her unwavering respect and love.
“That self-appointed mandate, to me, was one of the most profound expressions of love, commitment, and support,” she emphasized.
