The President, Oyo state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Ayobami Adeogun has directed all members across the 33 LGAs and 35 LCDAs to cooperate fully with state local government service service commission verification team.
Comrade Adeogun’s directive was contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday February 28.
This directive follows the official flag off of the verification of local government personnel by the Oyo state Local Government Service Commission in Ibadan South west on Monday by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Aderemi Ayodele who was represented by the full-time Commissioner, Alh Taiwo Akeem Oke.
While calling on local government employees across the 33 LGAs and 35 LCDAs to participate physically in the ongoing exercise, Dr Ayodele stressed that the exercise is meant to authenticate the number of staff and Ad-hoc workers on the payroll of all the local government in Oyo State adding that an up-to-date data is required to help the state government in its efforts to strengthen local government administration.
Consequently, Comrade Adeogun stated that the already flagged off Personnel Auditing which commenced on Monday, 26th February, 2024 by the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission earlier postponed for the NLC peaceful rally to hold would resume tomorrow, Thursday 29 and urged all NULGE members across the state to actively and physically participate in the exercise.
Comrade Adeogun however, appealed to the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, to as a matter of urgency recruit workers into the local government service as the number of aging and retiring local government workers have continued to skyrocket leaving huge manpower shortage in the local government administration.
“This exercise aims to authenticate the number of staff, both establishment, and ad-hoc currently on the Local Government payrolls across all 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state and not to witch haunt any officers in any form.
“As you may be aware, there have been concerns raised by your Union (NULGE) regarding the dwindling number of staff due to retirements and other factors which call for verifications.
“It is our hope that this verification exercise will shed light on the current workforce situation and pave the way for necessary actions to address the identified deficiencies and bring to fore strategic advantages to the service.
“The exercise for now is still within Ibadan Zone, which comprises Eleven (11) Local governments and Fourteen (14) LCDAs.
“I hereby implore the state and branch officers across the zones to play active roles in this exercise to ensure its success and the accuracy of the data collected. I also urge each and everyone to fully cooperate with the state government team and to ensure that you are present and punctual at the designated venues.
“Let us seize this opportunity to contribute to a transparent and accountable Local Government Service in Oyo State.” Comrade Adeogun said.
