The Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced a week-long program to celebrate the 2024 International Youth Day (IYD). Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, revealed the plans at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, emphasizing the importance of youth development to the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The five-day program, themed “Youth Digital Innovation For Sustainable Development,” commences on August 12 with an Awareness Walk/Environmental Clean Up. Subsequent activities include:
– August 13: Business Fair/Exhibition for Young Entrepreneurs, Boat Cruise, and Cultural Display
– August 14: Entrepreneurship Seminar, Business Plan Pitch/Contest, and Emerging Youth Award Ceremony
– August 15: Novelty Match
– August 16 (Grand Finale): Symposium/Interactive Session
Adegoke highlighted the state government’s commitment to providing opportunities and resources for over 10 million youths in Oyo State, aligning with the Roadmap for Sustainable Development and emphasizing “Youth Engagement” and “Sports Development.”

The International Youth Day, first observed by the UN in 2000, aims to address cultural and legal issues surrounding youths and offer solutions. This year’s focus on “Youth Digital Innovation For Sustainable Development” recognizes the transformative power of digitalization in accelerating sustainable development and mitigating overconsumption of natural resources.
