In a move to regroup and chart a new course ahead of the 2027 general elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo Central Senatorial districts held a strategic meeting on the next move.
It could recalled that the strategic meeting was held across the three Senatorial districts in the state, in which Oyo Central Senatorial meeting took place at Oyo East local government secretariat, Kosobo, Oyo, led by the senatorial Chairman, Hon. Muftau Olatunde Ogunremi, Senator Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, Elder Wole Oyelese, Rt. Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, Chief Sunday Ogunlade, ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, Rt. Hon. Wale Adegoke, Rt. Hon. Maruf Atilola, Dr. Gbola Adetunji, Hon. Taiwo Oke, Hon. Adeaga, Hon. Sunday Makanjuola SMARTO, State woman leader Alhaja wulemot Ibitoye, serving local government Chairmen, Oyo Central Women leader, Hon. Rafiyat Onilenla, former local government Chairmen, House of Assembly members, Vice Chairmen/Political Head, Commissioners, all board members, special assistants to the Governor, ward and local government excos, and several notable individuals.
The Chairman Oyo Central PDP Senatorial district, Hon. Muftau Olatunde Ogunremi, gave his welcome address emphasizing the view of the purpose of the meeting, the current political climate in the state, and key expectations were highlighted to ensure the smooth running of political affairs across the 11 local government areas in Oyo Central Senatorial districts.
However, the reports from the PDP party Chairmen were given, providing key information on party activities and highlighting emerging issues and areas of concern within their local government that must be addressed.
Also speaking, the former distinguish Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial districts, Sen. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu stated in her speech that there are issues to be settled, urging all leaders within the senatorial district to prevent factions, which she sees as a looming threat causing grievances within the party members, most especially at the local level.
Elder Wole Oyelese appraises the stakeholders, leaders, and party members for their enormous support and for stating the obvious issues surrounding the progress of the party in Oyo Central stressing that there are things to put in place to ensure all party members are on the same page and declared total support for the leadership of His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE.
He further encouraged the local government executive Chairmen to do better for their people in achieving dividends of democracy and ensuring all disputes are settled in their respective jurisdictions.
Equally, the ALGON Chairman of Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, appreciated His Excellence Gov. Seyi Makinde, the leadership of the party, stakeholders, and members for their support and the opportunity given to serve. He noted that their grievances were well observed, stressing that necessary action would be taken at the appropriate time to ensure a peaceful atmosphere within the party.
The following were the communique issues shortly after the strategic meeting;
The Oyo State People’s Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, the executive Governor of Oyo State, wherein the state party Chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro has its senatorial meeting simultaneously across all the senatorial district.
The Oyo Central Senatorial districts have their meeting at Oyo East local government areas, Kosobo, Oyo. Upon the serious deliberations among all the party members within Oyo Central Senatorial districts which include all the stakeholders and Leaders.
The following decisions have been reached and resolved at the meeting;
1. That all stakeholders, leaders, and members of the party in Oyo Central Senatorial districts pledged total support to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, beyond 2027.
2. That all party members in Oyo Central Senatorial districts appreciated His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde for his magnanimous towards extending the dividends of democracy to all zones in Oyo State.
3. That all political differences in each ward and local governments in our senatorial district must be resolved to solidify our party for future challenges.
4. That all party members and stakeholders appreciated His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde for providing job opportunities across all sectors of public services.
5. The party pledged their support to His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde for being a force of the voiceless against the anti-masses policies of the government at the center by APC.
The closing remarks were given by Hon. Rafiyat Onilenla, Alhaja Wulemat Ibitoye, the Oyo Central Women leader and State Women leader, urging the council chairmen not to relent on their efforts in providing job opportunities and empowerment for the party members.
