As part of measures to complement Oyo government’s ongoing efforts at addressing perennial flooding in the state, House of Representatives member, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has embarked on the channelization project of the Anfaani river in Ring Road area of Ibadan.
The Channelization, which spans an impressive stretch of over 1 kilometer, aims to provide a lasting solution to the flooding menace that has ravaged the community for years, causing untold hardship and devastation to residents.
The comprehensive channelization effort according to Tolu Mustapha, the Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide who represents Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of oyo state at the lower house in the national assembly, involves the clearing and dredging of the Anfaani river, removing obstacles and debris that have contributed to the flooding problem in the first phase of the effort.
This he said, will enable the water to flow freely, reducing the risk of overflow and subsequent flooding.
The second phase of the Channelization will include, the construction of a concrete canal, complete with embankments and drainage systems, to redirect the flow of the Anfaani river.
According to Mustapha, this will not only mitigate the flooding problem but enhance the aesthetic value of the environment.
Recall that the perennial flooding problem has had a huge impact on the Anfaani community, with residents often stranded in their homes during heavy rainfall.
The intervention efforts by Hon. Olajide, who has been at the forefront of grassroots development initiatives in his constituency is expected to bring immense relief to the community, saving lives and property with determined resolve to finding a lasting solution to the flooding problem.
