The Special Assistant on Interfaith Matters to Oyo state governor, Reverend Femi Ibikunle, has been honored with the ‘Peace Personality of the Year’ award for his outstanding efforts in promoting religious harmony, interfaith dialogue, and community peacebuilding across the state.
The award was presented to the governor’s aide on Thursday, November 7, at the 3rd Edition of Olawale Ogunbusola School Competition and Award, held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The award was in recognition of Rev. Ibikunle’s tireless work and commitment to promoting cooperation and understanding between diverse religious groups in Oyo State.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that since his appointment by Governor Seyi Makinde for a second time, Rev. Ibikunle has been a key figure in advancing peaceful coexistence and tackling religious intolerance, an initiative in line with the governor’s vision of inclusive governance.
In his acceptance speech after receiving his award, Rev. Ibikunle expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the success of his peacebuilding initiatives to the collaborative efforts of various religious leaders, community stakeholders, and the people of Oyo State.
Dedicating his award to governor Makinde for the opportunity given him to serve the state under the present government, Rev Ibikunle Described the award as a moral booster that will spurn him to strive for more accomplishments as a frontline advocate for religious harmony in the state.
“I dedicate this award to my benefactor, mentor, and leader, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for the opportunity given me to serve the very good people of Oyo state under his tutelage.
I also want to specially acknowledge all those who have worked with me in the pursuit of peace and unity in Oyo state, to the glory of God Almighty, our shared vision for the office of Interfaith is already yielding the envisioned results.
“This honor is not just for me, but for every individual and interfaith community committed to building a peaceful society. Together, we have shown that despite our differences, we can live in harmony.
“There’s no stopping now because we must continue to show the world the strength in our religious diversity. We shall continue to strive to uphold our identity as the pacesetter state not just in Nigeria but across the continent of Africa.”
The event which was well attended by notable dignitaries, including religious leaders, government officials, and civil society representatives also had several secondary schools well represented.
