Only Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, representing Ibadan Southeast/North East Federal Constituency, and Hon. Makanjuola SMATO, representing Ogooluwa/a Surulere Federal Constituency, received praise for their exceptional accomplishments and commitment to the welfare of their constituents in the outgoing year 2024, according to a stage-setting report created by a few chosen journalists and data experts based in Ibadan.
It should be recalled that five lawmakers were elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state at the 2023 general election, which included Abass Agboworin representing Ibadan Southeast/North East; Hon. Makanjuola Smato, representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency; Oyedeji Oyesina for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola; Mr Adebayo Adepoju for Ibarapa Central/North constituency and Hon. Stanley Olajide of Ibadan North West/South West.
Journalists and data specialists, including MOUTHPIECE NGR, have been keeping an eye on their operations since the lawmakers emergence in 2023, including their engagement, community service, bills sponsorship, and empowerment initiatives.
In order to give the readers the relevant data, efforts are made to present a comprehensive and impartial performance evaluation.
A limited set of metrics were employed, such as their accomplishments throughout the previous 18 months.
Based on data that was consistently collected throughout the wards of their respective constituencies, only Rep Agboworin and Smato were able to perform creditably well in the end.
To support our assessment, a socio-political group based in Ibadan, The Reformers’ Club (TRC), on January 1st commended the member representing Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency, in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, for his outstanding achievements and dedication to the well-being of his constituents in the outgoing year.
The group, in a statement, signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Aderibigbe, described Agboworin’s emergence as the first lawmaker to break the jinx of second term in the constituency as a remarkable feat and confirmation of his admirable leadership qualities.
Highlighting some of Agboworin’s notable achievements for the year empowerment, education, security, healthcare, and economic empowerment, he said the lawmaker has not only performed well but has also done what will make posterity not to forget him.
The two term lawmaker and Chairman, House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, was well commended for his efforts in embarking on impactful projects including Empowerment for 40 markets in constituency with N1m each; Empowerment for over 600 traders and artisans in constituency; Installation of security gates in 12 communities; Construction of 1.6km Kajola-Irede-Academy-Odinjo-Sodun road, a project worth N1bn; installation of solar-powered lights in 34 primary health centers, among many others.
Similarly, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, have also been described as a Trailblazer in Progressive Leadership and Transformative Representation by Atanda Hammed, a Senior legislative Aide in Abuja.
Fondly called Smato, the lawmaker emerged as a beacon of exceptional representation for the people of Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency. He equally emerged as the Chairman of the House Committee on Friendship Group to Pakistan, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, and an active member of several other committees
The federal lawmaker has consistently demonstrated his dedication to serving his constituents and the nation at large with purpose and integrity .
Since his inauguration, Hon. Makanjuola has championed numerous transformative initiatives across education, infrastructure, water supply, and security within his constituency.
A shining example of his commitment to education is the facilitation of a state-of-the-art six-classroom block in Maya, Iresa Ward, Surulere Local Government, fully furnished and tailored to create a conducive learning environment for students.
This landmark project, achieved under the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Special Intervention initiative, is the first of its kind in the constituency’s history.
Beyond the school project, he has also facilitated the construction of multiple boreholes in underserved communities like Ogunba, Gaa jooro, ilogbo, iranyin, olugbon palance, iwoso – mogele, ile – Abu, Ajaawa, Aresapa Palace, Begbaji, Ayegun yemetu, otamokun, onikoko, Ataapa, Lagbedu, Olukunle, Ebila, iresadu, Gambari, ladanu etc and he has also repaired over 60boreholes with full installation materials across the constituency, addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity for residents.
The federal lawmaker also executed the abandoned Oko water supply, recruitment of over 40 soldiers, rural electrification in 15 to 20 villages, facilitation of primary health centre at ijana- Ayegun, facilitation of over 100 solar street light, provision of transformers, facilitation of 3 blocks of classrooms at mayin ward, Asphalt laying of road, distribution of pallatives for over 5, 000 people, and also Distribution of fertilizer and other farm tools for over 3000 farmers.
His innovative vision has also brought a series of empowerment programmes for the youth and adults; Empowerment Program with fridge generator and cash, for over 200 adult and market women, 2nd phase of empowerment program for over 100 youth with cash, 3rd phase of empowerment program and Training for over 50 youth across the constituency.
Hon. Makanjuola’s influence transcends local achievements. His role as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals positions him at the forefront of shaping policies that can unlock Nigeria’s immense potential in the mining sector.
