There was palpable excitement in Ward 9 of the Ibadan NorthWest Local Government Area of Oyo State, as a significant empowerment initiative was launched by the Leader of the House, the Supervisory Councillor for Health, and the Special Assistant to the Local Government Chairman on Women Affairs. The event, which took place Wednesday, November 6, was met with overwhelming enthusiasm as community members of Yoruba, Hausa and Igbos eagerly anticipated the launch of programs aimed at boosting local development and providing much-needed support to the constituency.
The empowerment programs, designed to address various socio-economic needs, focus on , financial assistance. They are part of a broader effort to uplift residents and provide sustainable opportunities for economic growth. The initiative was organized with the objective of ensuring that the people of Ward 9 benefit directly from the government’s resources and that the efforts align with their most pressing needs.
Speaking at the event, the Leader of the House, Hon. Oluwagbemileke Gbadamosi Nelson proudly known as O’leke, expressed optimism that the programs would have a transformative effect on the community. “We are committed to improving the lives of our constituents. These empowerment programs are designed to equip our people with the tools they need to succeed, whether it’s through skill-building workshops, grants, or access to business resources,” he said.
The Supervisory Councillor for Health in the Local Government, Hon. Rale Opeyemi Olumuyiwa highlighted the importance of community-driven development and collaboration between the local government and the people. “This is not just about government intervention. It’s about working together with the people to create a more prosperous and self-sustaining community. We are hopeful that this will serve as a model for other wards in the area,” he stated.
The Special Assistant to the Local Government Chairman on Women Affairs, Princess Jumoke Adetoro, who also played a central role in organizing the event, underscored the long-term benefits of the initiative. “By empowering our people, we are not just providing temporary relief but building a foundation for sustainable economic growth. This is just the beginning of many more projects to come,” he said.
The trios also appreciated the leadership of Ibadan NorthWest local government and the party People Democratic Party in extension to the executive governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde.
The empowerment program was financial assistance to 25 beneficiaries to aim at supporting their businesses. The excitement within the community was palpable as attendees gathered to witness the financial support. Many expressed their gratitude, noting that such initiatives were long overdue. “This is a dream come true,” said one of the beneficiaries, a local entrepreneur. “With this support, I now have the opportunity to expand my business and improve my family’s life.”
Residents of Ward 9 have welcomed the programs as a much-needed boost to the local economy, which, like many parts of the country, faces challenges such as unemployment and underdevelopment. The empowerment initiatives are expected to create jobs, develop skills, and foster self-reliance, ultimately contributing to the growth of the entire local government area.
