Governor Seyi Makinde’s transformative strides in the agricultural sector deserve more than just applause — they merit emulation. As Supervisory Councillors for Agriculture and Rural Development across Oyo State, we have seen firsthand the ripple effect of his revolutionary policies on our rural economies and grassroots farmers.

The Governor’s Tractorization initiative stands out as a brilliant example of people-oriented governance. By offering a 50% subsidy on ploughing services to farmers, the Makinde administration has significantly lowered the cost of production and made mechanized farming more accessible to smallholder farmers. But he didn’t stop there — fertilizers, chemicals, cassava stems, maize, and soya seeds are also being distributed freely and fairly across the state, with no bias to religion, tribe, or political leaning.

Under the competent supervision of the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the sector has been reenergized. The ongoing reforms go beyond large-scale farmers — small-scale cultivators, who form the backbone of rural agriculture, are also being supported through the Oyo State Agricultural Development Programme (OYSADEP) at the local government level.

We urge our farmers to use these valuable inputs wisely and not misuse or sell what is meant to boost their livelihoods. This is a golden opportunity to expand productivity, enhance food security, and grow wealth in our communities. The Makinde agricultural revolution is a living testament that leadership, when driven by vision and compassion, can truly uplift the people.
