Prince Omiyale Ademola, Convener of the Return of Adelabu Penkelemesi 2027 movement, has issued a strong rebuttal to the Progressive Forum for Good Governance following their recent criticism of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s current Minister of Power.
In a statement released on Friday, Prince Ademola expressed disappointment over the group’s stance, labeling them as “disgruntled elements” within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized Chief Adelabu’s significant political influence, citing his 2019 gubernatorial run where he secured 357,982 votes despite facing alliances from opposing parties.
“It’s unfortunate that some within our party, under the guise of the so-called Progressive Forum for Good Governance, are attacking Chief Adebayo Adelabu,” Prince Ademola remarked. “In 2019, despite formidable challenges, he garnered substantial support from the electorate.”
He further questioned the credentials of current aspirants eyeing the governorship, suggesting that many lack the political capital to win even senatorial seats. “We are aware of their capacities,” he continued. “Many of those now parading themselves lack the antecedents to secure significant electoral victories, yet they clamor for the governorship.”
Addressing Chief Adelabu’s current focus, Prince Ademola highlighted his dedication to his ministerial role, stating that the Minister of Power is committed to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He dismissed the criticisms as tactics by those apprehensive about their prospects in the upcoming 2027 APC primaries.
“Chief Adelabu is currently focused on his ministerial duties,” Prince Ademola asserted. “Those attacking him are merely anxious about their chances in the 2027 APC primaries.”
Reflecting on the 2019 elections, he cautioned against internal divisions that previously relegated the APC to the opposition in Oyo State. Prince Ademola urged party members to learn from past mistakes to ensure a unified front in future elections.
“We must remember the lessons of 2019 that led to our current opposition status,” he warned. “The 2027 election is divinely ordained, and attempts to discredit Chief Adelabu will not succeed.”
He concluded by emphasizing the widespread support for Chief Adelabu among Oyo State residents, advising detractors to seek alternative methods to gain popularity. “The people of Oyo State are already yearning for his leadership,” Prince Ademola stated. “Those seeking relevance should find other means, not through baseless attacks.”
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, such internal disputes within the APC highlight the challenges the party faces in presenting a united front to reclaim leadership in Oyo State.
