In a heartwarming display of youthful leadership, Saheed Haleemat, a 12-year-old student who just completed her primary school and is set to gain admission into Junior Secondary School, has emerged as the winner of this year’s One-Day Chairman contest in Ibadan South West Local Government. The program, organised by the Executive Chairman, Honourable Kehinde Akande, aims to inspire and empower young leaders by providing them with hands-on experience in governance and leadership.
During her tenure as One Day Chairman of the council, Saheed Haleemat will preside over a council meeting, discuss issues affecting students and youth, and tour the council’s facilities. This initiative, which is the second of its kind, demonstrates the local government’s commitment to youth development and inclusive governance.
Honourable Kehinde Akande’s vision for the program is to nurture and support young leaders like Saheed Haleemat, who represent the nation’s future. The local government is investing in the next generation of leaders and change-makers by providing opportunities for young people to participate in leadership roles.
The Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Tajudeen Adigun, emphasised the importance of education, urging young people to focus on their studies. This message was echoed by the HLGA of the council, Alhaja Salau Amudat Olatoyosi, highlighting education’s crucial role in society.
The Education Secretary in Ibadan South West, Mrs. Morenike Adeniran, highlights the impact of young students in society. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Honourable Adelodun Asela, Leader of the Legislative Council; Hon. Raphael, Secretary of the Council; Honourable Moruff, Assistant Secretary; Councillors; Supervisory Councillors; Special Assistants; and Local Government Staff, as well as the Chief of Staff to the Local Government Chairman.
