Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, the Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, has reaffirmed his confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s dominance in Oyo State politics while formally declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Adegoke made this known on Saturday during an exclusive appearance on Political Circuit, a flagship political programme anchored by Mayor Isaac Brown on Fresh FM, Ibadan. The 90-minute interview provided insight into his political trajectory, his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, and his vision for the future of the state.
Confirming his ambition, Adegoke stated that he has prepared adequately for the contest, quoting his guiding principle, “Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance.” He stressed that extensive consultations and personal studies had convinced him that he possesses the competence and capacity to emerge victorious in the 2027 polls.
Speaking about his deep-rooted connection to the state, the financial expert recalled his formative years in Oke-Ogun, his A-level studies in Ogbomoso, and his long-standing residence in Ibadan. According to him, these experiences have given him a broad understanding of the cultural and political dynamics across Oyo State.
On the issue of zoning and power shift, Adegoke noted that Ibadan, with the largest voting population, has historically produced governors of the state. While acknowledging the aspirations of other zones, he cautioned that fielding a non-Ibadan candidate could weaken the PDP’s chances if the opposition presents a candidate from Ibadan.
He, however, called for a healthy contest within the PDP, urging other aspirants to join the race. According to him, factors such as political structure, consultations, and financial strength would ultimately determine who emerges as the party’s flagbearer.
Adegoke concluded with optimism about the PDP’s future, pointing to the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde as a unifying force within the party. “APC is still battling leadership issues that may last another 10 years, but PDP is blessed with a performing governor whom the people of Oyo love. No doubt, PDP will win the next governorship election,” he declared.
