A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, has reaffirmed that his longstanding commitment to philanthropy predates his political ambition and remains rooted in his passion for uplifting the underprivileged.
Speaking in Ibadan, Adegoke emphasized that his aspiration to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027 is an extension of his dedication to public service, not the motivation behind his charitable acts.
He stated:
“People should not assume that my philanthropy is tied to my gubernatorial ambition. I have been supporting widows for many years — it’s something I do annually. I instituted academic awards for the best students in the Faculties of Agriculture and Science at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, and I’ve consistently funded them for a decade. I’ve also built classrooms for a secondary school in Iseyin.”
Citing further examples, Adegoke added:
“I donated N20 million to the Faculty of Agriculture at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, to revive their farm. That’s in Osun State, not Oyo State where I’m contesting. I did it simply because I believe God has blessed me so I can be a blessing to others — and I will continue to serve humanity for as long as I live.”
The Aare-Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland and President of the Jericho Businessmen Club reiterated that his motivation for seeking public office is to scale up his impact.
“I genuinely believe in service to others,” he said. “And when I become governor, by God’s grace, I’ll be in a position to do even more for the people of Oyo State.”
On why he wants to lead the state, Adegoke said:
“With the grace of God, I’m aspiring to be the next governor of Oyo State. I say ‘by the grace of God’ because I believe firmly in divine will. Beyond that, I’ve taken deliberate steps towards realizing this vision. I’ve informed PDP leaders at my ward, local government, and state levels of my intention, and I trust that God will make it a reality.”
Adegoke, whose political journey began as a member of the Students’ Representative Council during his undergraduate years at Obafemi Awolowo University, believes his experience and expertise position him well to govern Oyo State.
An accomplished chartered accountant and oil and gas expert, Adegoke expressed confidence that 2027 is his appointed time and is optimistic about earning the people’s mandate to build on the foundation laid by Governor Seyi Makinde.
