In a historic event, SS1 student Ajayi Darasinmi was emerges as the One-Day Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government. The 12-year-old student from Amazing Grace Nursery and Primary School was chosen for her exceptional leadership skills and academic excellence.
Ajayi Darasinmi’s success story is as a result or her performance in the aptitude test where she scored 94% in the first round of the assessment and later scored 80% to emerge victorious as the best overall student.
She was honoured at the ceremony attended by local government, officials, teachers, and students , leaders and stakeholders from Oyo PDP. She was presented with a symbolic certificate, cash award and to pilot the affairs of the council for one day signifying her temporary leadership role.
During her one-day tenure, Ajayi Darasinmi will preside over a council meeting, where she will discuss issues affecting students and youth in the local government area. She will also take a tour of the council’s facilities and meet with departmental heads.
The One-Day Chairman initiative aims to inspire and empower young leaders, providing them with hands-on experience in governance and leadership. Ajayi Darasinmi’s emergence as One-Day Chairman demonstrates the local government’s commitment to youth development and inclusive governance.
Leaders and other stakeholders at the event dolled out cash award for Ajayi Darasinmi as she emerged as winner of the competition.
When asked about her experience, Ajayi Darasinmi said, “I’m thrilled and grateful for this opportunity. I will be learning so much about leadership and governance. I hope to inspire my peers to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact in our community.”
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, praised Ajayi Darasinmi’s leadership skills and enthusiasm, saying, “We’re proud to have her as our One-Day Chairman. She will represents the future of our great nation, and we’re committed to nurturing and supporting young leaders like her.”
