With a vision to foster cultural consciousness and intellectual growth, the visionary Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Akande, has generously sponsored a cohort of summer students to an enriching excursion at the prestigious National Museum, Aleshinloye, Ibadan.
The excursion, which took place on Tuesday, 27th August 2024 was aimed at exposing the students to the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria and the importance of preserving our national history. The students, who were from various schools in the local government area, were treated to a fascinating tour of the museum’s exhibits, which included ancient artifacts, traditional clothing, and historical relics.
Hon. Kehinde Akande, who was on ground to address over hundred students emphasized the importance of such excursions in broadening the students’ knowledge and understanding of their cultural roots. “As a government, we recognize the significance of cultural education in shaping the minds of our future leaders,” he said. “We are committed to providing opportunities for our students to learn about their heritage and appreciate the rich history of our nation.”
The students were thrilled to explore the museum’s exhibits, asking questions and taking notes on the various artifacts on display. They were particularly fascinated by the ancient Yoruba artifacts, which included traditional masks, ceremonial robes, and sacred objects.
One of the students, Dario Kehinde Glory expressed her gratitude to Hon. Akande for the opportunity to visit the museum. “I never knew that our culture was so rich and diverse,” she said. “I learned so much today and I’m grateful for the experience.”
The excursion was rounded off with a presentation on the history of the Yoruba people and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. The students were also given a tour of the museum’s gift shop, where they purchased souvenirs to commemorate their visit.
