The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has pledged to serve a single four-year term if elected president in 2027, promising to establish an inclusive transitional government of national unity. He also challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to publish the Federal Government’s petroleum pricing template to enable Nigerians understand how fuel prices are determined and explore possible relief from prevailing economic hardship.

Makinde made the declarations while speaking at the APM North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he outlined his party’s proposed approach to governance, anchored on transparency, public participation and power-sharing. He argued that expertise in addressing Nigeria’s challenges was not exclusive to those in government, insisting that the Federal Government should make its petroleum pricing template public to encourage informed debate and accountability.

“The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense. We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions,” Makinde said. He criticised the Tinubu administration’s policies on compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles and the naira-for-crude initiative, arguing that they had not delivered the expected results. He also recalled the President’s pledge to improve electricity supply within four years, calling for greater accountability over such commitments.

The Oyo State governor said the 2027 general election should provide an opportunity to change what he described as a culture of political deception, promising to communicate honestly with Nigerians about the country’s challenges. “2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” he said. Addressing concerns about political inclusion and the concentration of power, Makinde pledged that a government inaugurated on May 29, 2027, under his leadership would accommodate Nigeria’s diverse interests and remain in office for no more than four years. He added that the party had delayed releasing its manifesto to gather input from stakeholders before finalising its policy proposals.

Earlier, APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, described the party as an emerging opposition force, citing its governors, elected officials and growing membership. “Whoever does not reckon with us is going to do so at his or her peril,” Mohammed said, urging supporters to rally behind the party’s presidential ambition. The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Musa Daura, also called for a fundamental national reset, describing the APM as a platform for patriotic Nigerians seeking a change in the country’s direction. “Otherwise, we will continue to be in motion but without movement,” Daura said.
