The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lagos State, has reiterated its commitment to transforming the education sector and tackling the challenge of out-of-school children as pupils and students return for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The party, in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem Olalekan, said education remains a central pillar of the development agenda of its Lagos State governorship candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye, ahead of the 2027 election.
APM called for greater parental involvement in the education and upbringing of children, urging parents and guardians to go beyond paying school fees and providing learning materials by taking an active interest in their children’s academic performance, behaviour, talents and overall development.
The party also expressed concern over children who are still found hawking, begging or roaming the streets, particularly those exposed to dangerous traffic environments and harsh weather conditions.
According to APM, “No child should have to choose between education and survival,” stressing that the Lagos State Government must adopt sustainable measures to identify vulnerable children, return them to school and support families whose economic circumstances force children into street activities.
The party said an administration led by Prince Laja Adeoye would pursue a comprehensive educational reform programme involving scholarships, mentoring, skills development, improved school infrastructure and economic empowerment for vulnerable families.
APM outlined plans to adequately fund and equip public schools, improve facilities, strengthen support for state-owned tertiary institutions including Lagos State University (LASU), train and motivate teachers and lecturers, and introduce modern learning facilities and teaching materials.
The party also promised to strengthen technical, vocational, digital and entrepreneurial education, with the aim of preparing young Lagosians not only for employment but also for entrepreneurship and wealth creation.
It further proposed stronger partnerships between schools, tertiary institutions, industries and employers to ensure that educational programmes correspond with the demands of the modern economy.
APM said its vision under Prince Laja Adeoye is to position Lagos as a leading education hub in West Africa, arguing that Lagos children must be equipped with the knowledge, technology, creativity and critical-thinking skills required to compete globally.
The party maintained that education must go beyond examination certificates, insisting that schools should produce young people capable of innovation, effective communication, problem-solving and meaningful contributions to society.
As the new academic session begins, APM urged parents, teachers, school administrators and government officials to collectively prioritise the welfare and future of Lagos children.
The party reaffirmed that Prince Laja Adeoye’s APM administration would work towards a Lagos where no child is left behind and where quality education serves as a pathway to dignity, prosperity and responsible citizenship.
