The Chairman of Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Mustapha Akeem Olawale, has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde and the nation’s security agencies on the successful rescue of the 44 pupils and teachers who were abducted by terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Hon. Mustapha, in a congratulatory statement, described the successful operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity and a testament to the effectiveness of synergy among Nigeria’s security agencies.
The rescued victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, before regaining their freedom on July 10, 2026, following a carefully planned intelligence-driven operation led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General CR Nnebeife. The operation involved the Nigerian Army, the Office of the National Security Adviser through the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as local vigilantes, hunters and the Amotekun Corps.
According to the military, the operation, which lasted for over one month, focused on identifying and dismantling the terrorist network responsible for the abduction. Several suspects were arrested within Oyo State and other parts of the country, disrupting the criminal network and compelling the terrorists to release the victims unconditionally.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Olawale commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering commitment to the safety and security of lives and property in Oyo State, noting that the governor’s continuous support for security agencies contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
He also applauded the bravery, professionalism and sacrifices of the Nigerian military and other security agencies involved, acknowledging reports that some security personnel sustained casualties during the operation.
The Kajola council boss further expressed relief that the rescued pupils and teachers are receiving medical attention and would soon be reunited with their families.
While urging residents to remain vigilant, Hon. Olawale called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing criminal activities across communities.
He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured security personnel and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting every effort aimed at ensuring lasting peace, security and development in Oyo State.
