The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Lagos State, Mr. Laja Adeoye, has congratulated Lagosians on the occasion of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, describing June 12 as a historic symbol of the people’s struggle for freedom, justice, and representative governance.
In a statement issued by the Laja Adeoye Campaign Organization (LACO) on Friday, the campaign commended the resilience, determination, and democratic spirit of the people of Lagos State, noting that June 12 remains a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
According to the statement, the day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy heroes and heroines who stood firmly in defence of the people’s right to freely choose their leaders and shape the nation’s future.
“Lagosians have continued to demonstrate unwavering faith in democracy as the most reliable path to development, accountability, and shared prosperity,” the statement noted.
The campaign organization, speaking on behalf of Mr. Adeoye and the leadership of the APM, reaffirmed its commitment to building a Lagos that works for every resident, regardless of social or economic status.
It emphasized that the party’s vision is anchored on transparent governance, equitable distribution of resources, expanded economic opportunities, and sustainable development across all communities in the state.
As one of the leading opposition movements in Lagos, the APM stated that it remains committed to offering a credible alternative focused on inclusive governance, economic empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare delivery, enhanced security, infrastructure renewal, and social justice.
The organization stressed that democracy should go beyond periodic elections and must deliver tangible benefits that improve the lives of citizens.
While celebrating Nigeria’s democratic progress, LACO called on political leaders, institutions, and citizens to deepen democratic values through active civic participation, accountability, respect for the rule of law, and responsible leadership.
The statement further reiterated Mr. Adeoye’s resolve to provide visionary leadership and champion policies capable of unlocking Lagos State’s vast economic and human potential for the benefit of present and future generations.
The campaign urged Lagosians to remain hopeful, united, and actively involved in the democratic process, expressing confidence that collective efforts would lead to a more prosperous, equitable, and globally competitive Lagos.
