As Nigeria marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for the Ibadan NorthWest State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Olayinka Gbolahan Ibikunle, has reiterated his commitment to pursuing legislative measures that will enhance security and protect lives and properties across Oyo State.
In a Democracy Day message released on June 12, Ibikunle emphasized the need for collective prayers and renewed commitment to peace, security, and good governance in Nigeria.
The APM candidate expressed concern over the security challenges facing some parts of the country, particularly recalling the kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government, where teachers and pupils were abducted and are reportedly still in captivity. He called on Nigerians to remember the victims and their families in prayers while commending security agencies on their unrelenting intensify efforts toward the victims’ safe rescue.
According to him, the unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for stronger security frameworks and proactive legislative interventions aimed at safeguarding citizens.
Ibikunle assured constituents that if elected into the Oyo State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections, he would prioritize security-related legislation and oversight responsibilities to ensure maximum protection for residents of Ibadan NorthWest and Oyo State at large.
He noted that effective lawmaking, collaboration with security agencies, and community-based security initiatives would form key components of his legislative agenda.
He also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his continued commitment to the protection of lives and properties acknowledging the recent security reforms and investments made by the Oyo State Government to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we must continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability in our communities while holding leaders accountable to the principles of good governance,” he stated.
Reflecting on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and heroines, Ibikunle urged citizens to honor their legacy by promoting unity, patriotism, and peaceful coexistence.
He further called on Nigerians to pray for the nation and seek divine guidance for leaders at all levels, expressing hope that God would grant them wisdom and the right direction in addressing the country’s challenges.
The aspiring lawmaker concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Democracy Day celebration and reaffirmed his dedication to providing effective representation and people-centered leadership if given the mandate in 2027.
