The African Democratic Congress has officially cleared former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to participate in its 2027 presidential primary election slated for May 25.
The development followed the conclusion of the party’s screening exercise conducted by the Presidential Screening Committee chaired by former Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
Confirming the outcome of the exercise, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that all three aspirants successfully met the requirements and guidelines set by the party for the presidential contest.
The ADC also disclosed that several governorship, National Assembly, and other elective office aspirants across the country were equally screened and cleared ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to party officials, the screening process was designed to assess the preparedness, competence, and commitment of aspirants toward strengthening democratic governance and national development.
During the exercise, Atiku Abubakar reportedly presented his vision for addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen focused on economic reforms, employment generation, and institutional development. Rotimi Amaechi also highlighted governance reforms and national unity as key priorities.
The emergence of high-profile aspirants within the ADC signals the party’s growing determination to position itself as a formidable force ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party leadership reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and democratic primary process that would reflect the wishes of party members and strengthen confidence in the ADC’s internal democratic structure.
