The traditional ruler of Igangan Land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rafiu Olaniyi Adeniyi Ariwoola, has conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title of Aare Ariwajoye of Igangan Land on Engr. (Dr.) Olusegun Okanlawon, in recognition of his contributions to community development, cultural promotion, and sustained philanthropic efforts across the region.
In a corresponding honour, his wife, Mrs. Olubukola Okanlawon, was elevated to the title of Yeye Aare Ariwajoye of Igangan Land, acknowledging her consistent support for grassroots initiatives and her active role in advancing development within Igangan and surrounding communities.
The conferment took place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, during the official launch of the N5 billion Asigangan Ultra-Modern Palace project, an ambitious initiative aimed at strengthening and modernizing the traditional institution. The event attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including royal fathers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and prominent sons and daughters of Ibarapa Land.
At the ceremony, Engr. Okanlawon announced a donation of N5 million in support of the palace project, a gesture that was formally acknowledged as part of ongoing efforts to mobilize resources for the successful completion of the development.
In a statement issued by his media office, the conferment was described as a recognition of integrity, service, and measurable impact within Igangan Land and beyond. The statement noted that the Aare Ariwajoye title carries deep cultural significance in Yoruba tradition, symbolizing foresight, leadership, and commitment to communal progress, and is reserved for individuals with proven records of contribution to societal development.
Engr. Okanlawon, according to the statement, views the honour as a call to greater responsibility rather than mere ceremonial recognition, reaffirming his dedication to initiatives that promote infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and socio-economic growth across the Ibarapa axis.
The statement also acknowledged remarks made at the event by Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, noting that they were received with appreciation and in good faith.
