A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adewale Kolapo Kareem AKK, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a transparent, credible, and inclusive process in selecting its candidate ahead of the next gubernatorial election, warning that any attempt to impose a flag bearer could undermine party unity and electoral success.
Speaking during appearances on the popular Oselu Gbode programme on Adanimogo 105.1 FM in Ibadan, Kareem emphasized that the integrity of the party’s primary process would be pivotal to its chances at the polls. He urged party leaders to ensure a level playing field where delegates and members can freely choose their preferred candidate.
According to him, openness and fairness in the selection process would not only strengthen internal cohesion within the APC but also boost public confidence in the party’s democratic values.
Beyond his call for transparency, Kareem used the platforms to unveil an ambitious vision for Oyo State, lamenting what he described as the loss of its historic “Pacesetter” status due to outdated governance models. He decried the state of infrastructural decay and highlighted the stark contrast between global standards and local realities, drawing from his experience living and working abroad.
The aspirant, a professional and philanthropist who manages a workforce of nearly 1,000 people and earns substantial income outside Nigeria, dismissed claims that his political ambition is financially motivated. Instead, he attributed the state’s developmental challenges to systemic corruption and positioned himself as a service-driven leader guided by integrity and accountability.
Central to Kareem’s agenda is the adoption of “Evidence-Based Governance,” which he described as a modern, data-driven approach necessary to tackle contemporary challenges. His proposed 20-point plan focuses on scientific planning, institutional reforms, and a revamped educational framework aimed at repositioning the Southwest for sustainable growth.
Kareem also linked the growing trend of migration among Nigerians to limited opportunities at home, noting that many citizens are increasingly seeking better prospects abroad, particularly in countries like the United Kingdom. While commending the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he stressed that meaningful transformation in Oyo State must be driven by localized, pragmatic leadership.
Reiterating his stance, Kareem maintained that only a transparent primary process combined with visionary leadership can reposition Oyo State and restore its legacy as a trailblazer in governance and development.
