To mark this year’s World Health Day, Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo has unveiled a bold and inclusive healthcare agenda aimed at overhauling primary healthcare delivery in Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency.
In line with the global push by the World Health Organization for equitable and accessible healthcare, Ogunbayo highlighted the urgent need to strengthen primary healthcare systems, describing them as the most vital yet neglected component of Nigeria’s health sector—especially at the grassroots.
A Clear Commitment to Accessible Healthcare
Reflecting on the significance of the day, Ogunbayo reaffirmed his resolve to ensure that quality healthcare becomes accessible and affordable for all residents, regardless of socioeconomic status or location.
“Healthcare is not a privilege but a basic human right. Our communities deserve well-equipped facilities, competent personnel, and timely medical services without undue financial burden,” he said.
Core Focus Areas of the Health Agenda
Ogunbayo’s proposed interventions both legislative and constituency-based are anchored on four major pillars:
Strengthening Primary Healthcare Infrastructure
Plans include the rehabilitation and modernization of existing Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), provision of essential medicines and equipment, improved power supply, and round-the-clock service delivery in key locations.
Building a Strong Healthcare Workforce
The agenda prioritizes the recruitment and fair compensation of healthcare workers, alongside continuous training programs for nurses, midwives, and community health practitioners. It also proposes incentive systems to retain skilled professionals in underserved areas.
Expanding Preventive Care and Outreach
Ogunbayo emphasized preventive healthcare through free and subsidized medical outreaches, immunization campaigns in collaboration with health organizations, and targeted awareness programs addressing malaria, maternal health, and infectious diseases.
Driving Digital Health Innovation
The plan also introduces digital solutions such as basic electronic health records in PHCs and community-based data systems to enhance healthcare planning and emergency response.
Community-Centered Implementation
Underscoring the importance of inclusivity, Ogunbayo noted that his strategy will actively involve community leaders, healthcare professionals, and residents in identifying needs and shaping interventions.
“Healthcare must no longer be treated as an afterthought. Our people deserve responsive leadership that delivers tangible and measurable outcomes,” he added.

Positioning himself as a solution-oriented leader, Ogunbayo’s healthcare blueprint reflects a pragmatic approach to addressing long-standing challenges in the sector. His vision aligns with growing public demand for accountable and results-driven representation.
As part of his World Health Day message, he called on government institutions, private stakeholders, and the public to prioritize healthcare funding, transparency, and collaboration.
