AHEAD of the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State, a political advocacy group, Lagos for Prosperity Group (LPG), has endorsed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Laja Adeoye, describing him as the candidate capable of ending the ruling party’s dominance in the state.

The group’s spokesman, Kazeem Oshodi, who announced the endorsement in Lagos, said the decision followed extensive consultations and a critical assessment of the state’s political and economic trajectory.

He declared that Adeoye represents a new wave of leadership urgently needed to reposition Lagos for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

According to Oshodi, “Lagos deserves a leadership that reflects the aspirations of its people across all strata. After careful consideration, we are convinced that Laja Adeoye possesses the competence, vision, and courage to lead the state in a new direction.”

The group argued that despite ongoing infrastructural projects under the current administration, development has not been evenly distributed, leaving many communities underserved.

While acknowledging efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, LPG maintained that delays in key projects and perceived gaps in service delivery have heightened the need for a more people-focused administration.

In a direct political jab, the group said the time had come for a credible opposition to challenge the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos politics.

LPG further described Adeoye as a seasoned entrepreneur and political strategist with deep understanding of the state’s economic ecosystem, insisting that his leadership would unlock opportunities for youths, investors, and small businesses.

The group, which comprises youths, professionals, entrepreneurs, and grassroots mobilisers, pledged to build a broad-based coalition that would cut across party, ethnic, and social lines to secure victory for the PDP in 2027.

Political observers say the endorsement underscores early realignments and intensifying contest for power in Lagos, as aspirants and interest groups begin to position themselves ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.

With the battle lines gradually forming, the 2027 Lagos governorship race is shaping up to be a defining political contest in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
