The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fasting period, urging them to sustain the virtues of compassion, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice emphasised during the holy month.
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity and sustained progress.
He further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness and support to the less privileged in society.
The minister reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
