As Oyo State marks its golden jubilee, Hon. Tallest Innocent, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Oyo State on Community Relations, has joined well-wishers across the nation in congratulating the Government and people of the State on the historic attainment of fifty years of existence.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the anniversary, released to newsmen in Ibadan, Hon. Tallest described the Oyo @ 50 celebration as a profound symbol of resilience, steady growth, and the enduring spirit of the people of the State.
He noted that the journey of Oyo State since its creation represents decades of sacrifice, vision, and collective resolve. He paid tribute to the founding fathers of the State, acknowledging their courage, foresight, and commitment in laying a solid foundation for future generations.
According to him, the progress being celebrated today is firmly rooted in the sacrifices and leadership of those who laboured diligently to establish and shape the State in its formative years. He emphasized that honouring these pioneers is not merely an exercise in history, but a source of inspiration drawn from their values of unity, service, and development.
Hon. Tallest also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as a focused, inclusive and people-centred style of leadership, stressing that consistency in governance and continuity in developmental policies are essential as the State enters a new phase of its growth.
He expressed confidence that with purposeful leadership and the collective support of citizens, Oyo State will continue to record significant progress in infrastructure, economic advancement, and social development.
Reflecting on the significance of the golden jubilee, Hon. Tallest called on the people of Oyo State, both at home and in the diaspora, to remain united and steadfast in their commitment to building a more prosperous and inclusive future for the State.
He further stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved through collaboration between government, private individuals, and communities.
While acknowledging that fifty years is a milestone worthy of celebration, he observed that it also serves as a reminder that the task of building a greater Oyo State remains ongoing. He therefore urged youths and other stakeholders to play active roles in the development of the State and to rise above divisions based on ego, ethnicity, or the influence of self-serving political interests.
In conclusion, Hon. Tallest appealed to youths, women, traditional rulers, and community elders to promote peace and refrain from unnecessary conflict. He cautioned against being drawn into politically motivated violence, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.
“Violence only harms families, neighbours, and communities, while those who instigate it often remain far removed from its consequences. No political ambition is worth the life of a brother or sister,” he stated.
