As the world gears up to observe the 2024 World Peace Day tomorrow, the Special Assistant on Interfaith Matters to Oyo state governor, Rev. Femi Ibikunle, the Special Adviser on Interfaith Matters has advocated for sustained public peace and peaceful coexistence among all faiths resident in the state.
The governor’s aide emphasized that there is no alternative to peace and tranquility for any meaningful development to take place in the society.
A statement by Rev Ibikunle on Friday September 20, emphasized the crucial role of peace in deepening inter religious harmony and meaningful development.
Rev. Ibikunle explained that conflicts around the world have detrimental impact on the global community stressing that peace was not merely the absence of conflict but the foundation upon which sustainable development can be built.
He therefore, called for a collective commitment by government at all levels and stakeholders to sustain the peace relative across different faiths and cultures resident in Oyo state.
The governor’s aide also disclosed that arrangements have been concluded for the commemoration of the 2024 world peace day in Oyo state on September 26 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Rev Ibikunle stressed that unity in diversity remains an essential element for addressing the pressing challenges facing humanity, such as poverty, religious intolerance, and violence.
While reiterating the commitment of the Seyi Makinde led administration to peace-building initiatives, Rev. Ibikunle emphasized that promoting a peaceful environment is critical and integral to the state’s sustainabile development agenda.
He urged residents to actively participate in promoting harmony within their various local government areas and local communities.
